Lets face it.. it may be cliche, but it’s true! these moments are fleeting!
Having good quality newborn portraits is just as important as having good quality wedding portraits.
Your baby is going to grow and change by the minute the first year of his life. The fingers and toes will grow and change and lose that baby shape. He’ll start to be more awake and alert and develop his own personality. You’ll never get these sleepy moments back.
You’ll never be able to fit her in the palm of your hand again.
One of my favorite parts of a newborn session is the parent shots. Capturing that bond and that love. To capture the thing they cherish most in the world, right now, the tiniest they will ever be.
Yes, newborn photography is an investment. It’s an investment into lifelong images that you will never get back. Just like that wedding day, the 10th day of your babies life, the first month of your babies life, can never be captured again.
Choose a photographer that is experienced. Look around and find what best fits your style. Would those photographs look best displayed in your home? There are many different styles of newborn photography. Do you like lots of props or simplistic backdrops with neutral colors that will match each room in your home?
Research photographers way before your baby is due. Find out what they charge and save up. Ask about a payment plan and book way in advance. Most photographers that are really good book in advance and you don’t want to miss out on a spot!
Tell the photographer what your expectations are. Tell her what types of images you really like. I LOVE when my clients have ideas of things they want. This helps me make sure they are fully satisfied with the photographs. When inquiring, ask to see a full newborn gallery. Make sure that a gallery from them will offer lots of variety. Remember, what a photographer posts on her Facebook is probably what she considers to be her best work. Ask to see more!
But really, take newborn photography seriously. Think of it this way.. what if you had your baby photographed by someone at 10 days old, it took them 3-4 weeks to get the photos back to you. By then your baby is over a month old, maybe even older if the photographer is inexperienced and takes on more clients than they can handle. What will you do if you do not like the photos? Your baby is too old now to find someone else to photograph them. That moment is gone 🙁
Newborn photography is an investment but invest in the right experienced photographer for you and it will be something you never regret!!
